10:30 AM - 12:30 PMSanctuary & ZoomJoin us for a special Shabbat Morning service as we honour Temple Emanu-El member, Elly Gotz, C.M., on his appointment to the Order of Canada.
Elly Gotz is a Holocaust survivor and renowned educator who has mentored hundreds of thousands of students over three decades at education centres, high schools and universities. He is an engineer, businessman and pilot and was President of our congregation. His acclaimed memoir, Flights of Spirit, speaks to the importance of understanding the conditions that bring about genocide and serves as a genuine counterweight to Holocaust deniers.
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, Elly survived Nazi persecution as a child and later rebuilt his life in Canada, where he dedicated himself to Holocaust education and the promotion of human rights. Through classroom teaching, public lectures and national educational initiatives, he has played a significant role in shaping Holocaust awareness in Canada and in fostering understanding, tolerance and moral responsibility among new generations.
In recognition of his lifelong commitment to remembrance, education and human dignity, Elly Gotz was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
Elly joins a distinguished list of Temple Emanu-El members who have been appointed this prestigious honour. Read about them HERE.
