Ida Freedman Israel Scholarship

The scholarship is intended to support an immersive experience or program that would increase one’s understanding and love of Israel. The value of the scholarship is $10,000.

Applicants should be generally between the ages of 16 and 26 years, and be a member or child or grandchild of a member of Temple Emanu-El. The award may be made to one person or split between more than one worthy candidate.

This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of the Goldfarb and Goldlist families who established the fund in 1992 in memory of Joan’s and Helen’s mother as well as other contributors to the Ida Freedman Fund. Every spring the Temple oversees competitions for this scholarship, targeted at our young members.

2016 Awardees: Danielle and Nicole Pal

Temple Emanu-El is happy to announce the 2016 winners of The Ida Freedman Israel Scholarship— twin sisters Danielle and Nicole Pal, age 19, daughters of Temple member Robert Pal. The scholarship, valued at $10,000, will support their multi-faceted experiences in Israel this summer, starting as interns at the Environmental Law Clinic at Bar Ilan
University and finishing up studying transboundary water issues at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Danielle and Nicole are both studying environmental issues at university—Danielle at U of T and Nicole at York. They will leave on June 5 for their 10-week trip and will share their experiences with Temple Emanu-El in the fall.
