High Holy Days • Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?
Members in good standing are already registered for services. No further action is needed.
Guests need to register HERE.

Where are my tickets?
There will be no physical, printed tickets this year. Members in good standing and registered guests will be on a printed list that will be checked at the door. Please bring photo ID and be prepared to have your bags checked for safety.

Why did you send me a Zoom link when I want to come in-person?
Even if you are coming in-person, you will also receive a personalized Zoom link. If you feel unwell on the day of the service, we ask you to stay home and join us online.

Do I need a different Zoom link for each service?
No. The personal Zoom link you receive for online services is the one Zoom link you should use to access ALL of our online services.

Why is there a minimum donation required for guests?
There are many costs associated with running a synagogue for High Holy Days – and throughout the year. We need the help of our entire extended community to share these costs.

What if I can't afford it?
We will never close our doors to people in financial need who want to join us in prayer. If this is you or someone you love, please contact our Executive Director, Irena Kochba (exec@templeemanuel.ca) or Rabbi Debra Landsberg (rabbi@templeemanuel.ca). We are here to help.

I haven't renewed my membership yet.
Annual commitment forms were emailed in July from Irena Kochba. If you did not receive an email, please check your spam/junk folder. If you still can't find it, please contact our Bookkeeper, Ilona Meron, at ilona@templeemanuel.ca. If you have questions about the content of your annual commitment, contact Irena Kochba at: exec@templeemanuel.ca

Can I bring friends and family?
We love welcoming friends, family, and anyone you know who might be looking to check out our wonderful community. Our Family Programs are priced to encourage community participation and outreach with a minimum required donation of only $100 for an entire family. Other programs require guest registration which can be found HERE.

Do I need a Machzor?
Machzorim (High Holy Day prayerbooks) will be available at the synagogue for in-person services. If you are joining us online, the text of the machzor will generally be shared on the screen. If you would like to borrow a hard copy of the machzor to use for online services please contact Irena Kochba: exec@templeemanuel.ca

How do I get to Temple Emanu-El?
Map and directions are HERE.

What's the parking situation?
Like other synagogues, our parking is limited on the High Holy Days. If our parking lots are full, you may need to park on side streets and walk. If you can, it would be greatly appreciated if you would consider leaving our parking lots for older people or those with mobility challenges.

I have more questions / I need more help.
We are here for you! Please contact Carli Portman: carli@templeemanuel.ca or 416-449-3880 ext.215. If you need help on one of the Holy Days and Carli is unavailable, you will receive an automated response that will include other help options.
